Socorro
Season Opener Starts Off with a Bang!
Our
experienced crew has been reporting one of the
best starts to a Socorro season in a longtime -
and they should know as most have been with us
for many, many years.
Rey, our head divemaster/instructor with 12 years
plus aboard Solmar V reported sharks, sharks and
more sharks at Roca Partida during the season opener.
Hammerheads, silvertips, galapagos, a few silkies
and of course the white tip reef sharks that always
hang out on the ledges. Now that is a lot of sharks!
Eric, divemaster/nitrox instructor who has been with us for 8 years reports
that most trips so far have had multiple giant mantas at the boiler cleaning
station. The record so far this season is 10 different individuals identified
throughout one day with up to 5 mantas interacting with our clients at one
time - just like the good ole days!
Daniel, divemaster/instructor who is also trained
in equipment repair and has been leading groups
for 5 years aboard Solmar V was in charge of our
Nov 29 trip and besides good manta and shark sitings
was able to choose the right site at the right
time, putting the whole boat on a juvenile whale
shark about 10-12 feet long at the canyon for a
very long time.
Geronimo, our naturalist/photographer
who has graced our crew from the beginning reports
topside
photography stunning with plenty of boobies, frigates,
cormorants and even some whales spotted from the
big boat. If you take a trip aboard our vessel,
be sure to sign up for one of Geronimo's famous "panga
rides" - they're a kick!
Although whale sharks have been light this season,
we have also had great luck encountering wild bottle
nose dolphins and schools of yellowfin tuna.
It looks like our conservation efforts in getting
the Navy to patrol these waters and prosecute poachers
is paying off. This has been a joint effort together
with a number of interested divers from all over
Mexico who are coming together to work with the
Mexican government in keeping these precious islands
as pristine as possible. It's not perfect but we
can already see a real difference.
Come join the experienced,
professional, and courteous crew of the Solmar
V for an adventure
you will not soon forget on one of our Big
Animal destinations where "Wilderness is the
Ultimate Luxury!"
